Living with the unsafe Jesus!
The last couple of weeks have been really interesting for me. As a result of interaction with several individuals I have realised how deeply i long to be loved and how desperate i am to develop intimate relationships with people………..and i am not speaking about a romantic relationships………we’ll leave that for another day…….
After much reflection and a good but hard conversation with a friend, i realise that its only FEAR that stops me from experiencing the kind of relationship that is life-giving and challenging……………the fear of being hurt, rejected and abandoned by people really does freak me out…………..but i cant play it safe forever………………..
This fear, i realised, extends also, to my relationship with God. Needless to say, i am not sure where i am in this relationship that i supposedly have had for years………..that is my relationship with God.
Deceiving myself into thinking that Jesus is always safe and comfortable as limited my growth and certainly limited my faith………..Its no wonder i have felt abandoned by God and spiritually stagnant for such a long time……
I have learnt that God doesnt always, in fact probably never, meets you in your comfort zone. Hence stagnation! A personal challenge for me as been to be brave enough to step out of my safety bubble……and experience this unsafe Jesus…..not sure i entirely know what this means or even looks like………….but i think its about freaking time i risked and found out……………………..
This came out an article i read this week which really challenged me in this journey of living with an unsafe Jesus as i like to call it….
“Jesus’ greatest command was “LOVE”…………….for most of us, true love is the most difficult and unsafe venture we will ever undertake………..but if Jesus existed in order to give Himself as a sacrifice for others, shouldnt that be our sacrifice……………” Robert Bruce

This is why I agree with the many people who say that Christianity is primarily about relationships. Why…because life is about relationships and Christianity is nothing other than life lived the way we were supposed to live it.
So good luck to you and to all of us on the adventure of seeking to love and be loved by God and by Others.

Hey Mandz,
I’ve found that my relationship with others improved when I started developing a better relationship with the Lord.Even when I’m in awe of a situation or someone when I take it to the Lord suddenly I find the Holy Spirit dropping thoughts and ideas into my spirit that show me how to handle these situation or persons.
